Trees face stress|Trees get poisoned|How do we Save them?

NOW EACH FORTNIGHT YOU SLEEP, YOU ARE ONE STEP CLOSER TO BECOMING EXINCT.

How many of us are aware that the trees, just like us, have the capability to go into stress? Not many, right? But it is true, that trees are in so many ways like us. If we prick them, they bleed. If we tickle them, they laugh. If we poison them, they die. And if we love them, they bloom and shine!
So I will be dedicating my today's blog to the problems faced by trees and how we can ensure that they grow to be healthy.
LET'S START!!

🌳  TREE POISONING?

When we humans ingest contaminated food,we are very likely to get food poisoning. Likewise when the polluted or contaminated air and water is taken in by the trees, they too get poisoned. Because of lowering water table levels, mineral deficiencies, they lose the immunity to fight the poison spreading through them. They have no good stuff coming up through the roots, as the falling rain that feeds them has also picked up pollutants on its way. Hence, they are poisoned by pollution.

💭WHAT CAN WE DO TO PREVENT TREE POISONING"?

  • We can provide mulches around each tree to reduce their pH level of the acid rainfall.
  • We can provide water feed sources for them individually.
  • We can also suspend in water a sack full of crushed minerals which will enrich water in times of drought etc.

🌳 TREE STRESS!

Stress in trees is mainly caused due to human activities and sometimes natural factors. Trees usually don't show any immediate responses to stresses, however, with stresses many changes start to occur in a tree depending on the damage caused by the stress.Root systems are often damaged during construction, which means that the tree is now unable to supply adequate water and nutrients from its roots to the other parts of the tree. Thus due to the building stress over time a tree is lead to its deteriorated growth.

Are Your Trees Stressed? | Arbor Day Blog
THE LEAVES OF A STRESSED TREE

EXTERNAL SYMPTOMS:-
  1. Branches begin to die
  2. Root system slows down
  3. Smaller/fewer leaves
  4. Excess fruits or seeds
These processes continue and lead the tree into a downward spiral. Eventually, the tree dies.

💭 HOW CAN WE PREVENT"TREE STRESS"?

Looking after your trees: Signs of stress, what to do, and when to ...
  • Avoid injuries to trees and their root systems during construction.
  • Don't over fertilise.
  • Use proper pruning techniques as lawnmowers are one of the major causes of damage to trees.

🌳 A TREE IS DYING! SHOULD I CALL AN AMBULANCE?

A tree has a long and healthy life but due to increased pollution and environmental stresses and adverse weather conditions, their health may be affected severely.

💭 WHAT CAN WE DO TO SAVE A"DYING TREE"?
Tens of millions of trees across the U.S. are dying. | Grist
    • Mend the watering issues[the tree can be affected adversely by too much or too little water. Also, make sure you have a proper drainage system around your tree, so that the place at which the tree is planted is not water logged].
    • Don't use too much of mulch.
    • Make sure the mulch around a tree is not too thick as it will prevent the roots from breathing.
    • Go for smart saving of a tree by using bio-fertilisers.
    • Go paperless or use recycled paper to prevent a tree from dying.

Now apart from all these steps, what I urge all of us to do more, is to plant trees, reduce the carbon footprint, reduce the wastage of fossil fuels or coal, petroleum, diesel, electricity etc. in any form. It is only when so many small steps are taken and are multiplied by millions, we will be able to make a change, and the change starts with you from this moment.
